I hope this message finds you well. My name is Emmi Wood, and I am an honours student currently pursuing a career as a Chartered Accountant. Alongside my academic aspirations, I have the privilege of representing South Africa as part of the national kayaking team, with our eyes set on the World Championships in France in July 2025
Having competed in sports at an international level before, I have firsthand experience of how sport shapes individuals in profound and meaningful ways. It empowers us to push boundaries, deal with immense pressure, build resilience, and instills determination that extends far beyond the playing field. These lessons have been instrumental in my growth both as an athlete and as a person, and I would really like my fellow team members to have the opportunity to experience this.
Introducing Kayak Cross
Kayak cross (also known as extreme slalom) is a thrilling and visually captivating sport. It consists of series of races down white-water river sections, requiring not only skill and agility but also determination and mental toughness. The fast-paced, action-packed nature of the sport makes it engaging for viewers, with potential for media and social media exposure.
The national team consists of a junior and U23 men and women’s team, each comprising 2 to 3 talented individuals. There will be approximately 6 or 7 individuals going to the World Championship.
